Destination Winter Park Resort

Karah & Jake  |  August 10th  |  Winter Park, Colorado

From the bride, Karah:
I LOVE Colorado, and it just so happens was lucky enough to meet the sweetest man to give me the wedding of my dreams! When Jake asked me to marry him I told him “I wanted to get married on the top of a mountain in Colorado”  His reply was “Lets do it !”  We flew out a couple months later to look at a few different venues. Winter Park had everything, we had two more places on our list to see, but as soon as we left the Lodge at Sunspot {Rockstar Venue} we were done looking! I wanted the guests to be able to ride the lift up to our wedding site, have the ceremony outdoors, a rustic appeal to our reception venue and I wanted to keep the lodging intimate. It was so nice to all stay in the same place, the mountain village is so quaint we were always running into wedding guests. I loved it. Winter Park Resort had it all!!

I had embroidered hankies made for my twin sister, my mom and dad, and Jake’s mom. All had something different on them.

I wore an ivory tulle ball gown by Vera Wang with my cowboy boots. All the bridesmaids wore tulle cocktail dresses by Cynthia Rowley with their cowboy boots.

Weddings in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado

The ceremony was located on the top of the mountain requiring everyone to take the chairlift up.  The men all made it up however, all of the ladies and my parents and I got caught in the downpour!  All I could do is laugh! It was so funny to see all the girls scarves blowing in the wind on the lifts a head of me!

As soon as the rain let up we went out for our first look and there was a beautiful rainbow! The rain held off the rest of the evening, all the guests were able to take the lift up and the sun came out during our ceremony!

We wanted to do something a little different for our guest book. Jake is very artistic and I love to snowboard, he ended up painting the Colorado license plate (except in brown) on a snowboard. He painted the mountain backdrop and then wrote Mattern Winter Park, Colorado 8-10-12. We had the guests sign that instead. We are going to make it into a coat rack. It turned out really nice!

My advice: I’m sure they will hear this a million times, as I did… But enjoy every minute. Don’t let yourself get upset and stressed over silly details, especially on your wedding day. It should be fun and exciting… you are getting married!!!!  I was so lucky to have such amazing people in charge and running our event that I didn’t worry about a thing. As my mom told me, “everything will work out”. And it did, I just enjoyed the ride!!
