A Simple Rustic Colorado Wedding
Devin & Darren | June 21st | Estes Park, Colorado
From the bride: We wanted an intimate, rustic, cozy, natural, and outdoorsy wedding with earth tones and neutrals.
My favorite ceremony memory was seeing each other for the first time. We are not very traditional, but preserving the “walking down the aisle” moment was special to Darren, so we kept true to tradition. It was worth it to have that experience filled with excitement and love.
Another one of our favorite moments from the ceremony was the unexpected change in weather; the wind was blowing, rain was falling, and thunder was rolling in like crazy! During this exact moment, Amy was reading the blessing that said that now that we are married, we will feel no rain. It was a funny and sweet moment, and it reminded us of what was truly important.
We held the reception at the Twin Owls Steakhouse. We kept the décor very simple: white linens, wood vases and all white flowers, candles in mason jars.
Darren’s dad made flower planter boxes with a “D” from old barn wood.
Looking back, we ’ve both laughed about how we wish we would have eaten more of our delicious food. There was so much going on that we got too distracted!
My advice: Do what you want, regardless of the well-meaning advice of others. Make your wedding your own and don’t worry about what others are doing; this is a celebration of you and your significant other. Similarly, remember to focus on the bigger picture. Although the wedding is a joyous day full of memories, it is really about what comes after the wedding: your life together.
