Gretchen & John | October 19th | Evergreen Lake House
From the bride: One of my favorite wedding moments was my father’s speech and toast. He is a big fan of hunting and fishing. Little did I know, our wedding was scheduled on the opening day of Pheasant Season in South Dakota. For the last 30 years, my father has packed up the dogs and his hunting gear in his Ford pickup truck and headed to opening day. This was the first time in 30 years that he missed it.
I wrapped my grandmother’s pocket watch around my bouquet. She passed away when I was 14, so it was nice to have something that represented her.
For years, my father has been collecting pheasant feathers from his hunting trips. Instead of the usual floral arrangements, we had our florist include his pheasant feathers in the centerpieces to give the space an outdoorsy flair. John has since taken up pheasant hunting and as a surprise we included a feather in his boutonniere.
