Christine & Doug | August 10th | Crested Butte Mountain Resort
From the bride: Crested Butte was the absolute perfect destination for us to say “I do”. The small mountain town feel, laid back nature and overall beauty of the town made it the perfect wedding weekend. The wedding was amazing from our first look in the wildflowers to the ride up the chairlift, to making it official with all the support from our family and friends, to all the memories made celebrating the big day.
We definitely made our day our own, from making our own invitations, writing our own ceremony, the groomsmen and their yellow dinosaur socks, to the Polaroid guest book and my husband’s speech. Everything came from the heart and represented us as a couple. We are both architects so attention to detail was very important and we tried to put a little of us into every piece of the wedding.
Everyone attending rode the chairlift up to the Uley’s Cabin site. It was a fun way to get everyone to experience the mountain setting and to sit back and enjoy the scenery. The ceremony was held on the deck of Uley’s Cabin overlooking the majestic Rocky Mountains.
We wanted to do some type of unity ceremony, but instead of a candle, we did wildflowers seeds that we later tossed out into the wooded paths around Uley’s Cabin. Now we get to come back to Crested Butte and be reminded of our special day every time we see the wildflowers.
The reception took place in and around Uley’s Cabin. The cabin was a rustic cozy cabin with all the cabin décor. The cabin has a huge wrap around deck that overlooked the mountains. We held cocktail hour out on the deck, dinner was served in a tent on the lawn, and dancing followed in the cabin.
For the décor, we tried to stay with the mountain theme, incorporating wood and other natural elements, but also wanted to bring a little style to the décor with bold prints, beautiful flowers, modern accessories and pops of color.
We had a polaroid guest book.
Looking back, I loved every moment of it, all the craziness that goes into wedding planning was so worth it for that very special day you get to marry your best friend.
My advice: Start your planning early! All the little details at the end sneak up on you.
