Sarah & Tom  |  August 29th  |  Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield

From the bride:
Everything was DIY. The invitations, program (all stationary), favors (ceramic glasses handmade by my mom), table centerpieces, dessert toppers, the bridesmaid’s sashes, my earrings, hair comb, and lace knit shrug for the reception, the flower girl’s necklaces and ribbon wreaths, burlap bunting, our traditional Greek stefana and escort cards and display.  I loved the DIY projects so much that I have started an Etsy store called Gilded Lily.

I wore an Enzoani gown from The Bridal Collection.

Our color palette was yellow and grey with teal accents.

We got married in a clearing of trees in front of a gazebo with a beautiful view of the foothills.  We asked a mutual friends of our parents, whom we both deeply respected to perform the ceremony.

At the beginning of the ceremony, we asked our guests to turn to those around them and offer a sign of peace – this gave us an opportunity to visit each set of parents and present roses to our mothers.  Tom is Greek and so to honor his heritage, we wore the traditional stefana (crowns), but walked around our guests rather than three times around the alter, displaying the importance of our friends and family in our lives.

Our décor was rustic with burlap table runners, groups of white milk vases filled with yellow billy balls, hand drawn chalkboard signage and mason jar glasses. One long table meandered through a field with round tables spotted around it and marquee lights hanging overhead.

Having been to many weddings and despising being herded into a group for the bouquet toss, we opted for a non-traditional version.  My brother built a 6’ tall trebuchet (French catapult) to fling the bouquet and garter!  We asked all single guests to write their name on a flag and place it in a field where they thought the bouquet would land.
