Jessica & Daniel | September 1st | Salida, Colorado

From the bride:
Salida was the first place we went camping together, and the place we always returned to every summer to camp and mountain bike. Plus, the collegiate peaks are stunning, and we wanted our guests to experience a part of Colorado that not many tourists see.

We wanted to keep it simple yet unique and focus more on creating a weekend of memories and experiences. We tried to marry vintage with rustic. We chose floral arrangements that were filled with different shades of greens and lots of texture to evoke a more earthy feel.  We kept coming back to the motto of keep it simple and make the experience as fun as possible.

Our ceremony was outside on the patio of the SteamPlant Event Center alongside the Arkansas River. It was filled with so many special moments. We married ourselves and invited several of our closest friends and family to contribute to the ceremony. We exchanged our own handwritten vows, complete with tears and laughter.

We also wanted everyone to dance the entire night. So we found a phenomenal caterer, who was able to provide a lovely gluten-free meal. We spent a little more money than originally budgeted for our DJ, but the dance floor was packed from start to finish. And to this day, everyone reminisces about how unique and refreshing the ceremony was. Focus on what you want. Everyone should be there to love and support you no matter what. Don’t get pulled into everyone else’s drama!

While there were so many marvelous moments, the best moment by far was the 45-minute firework display that was gifted to us by the town of Salida. Several of our guests said it was their present to us, but the reality is we got lucky! Because of the hot, dry summer, Salida was under a fire ban and had been stockpiling tons of fireworks that they just coincidentally decided to shoot off right before our first dance. It was magical!
