From the groom, Nick: We planned our wedding within a matter of a few months. We wanted something very simple, yet beautiful and special. We did our best to incorporate all of the important touches with the time we had.
The ceremony was short and sweet. We exchanged vows overlooking the Rocky Mountains.
After the ceremony, we drove down to Barker Reservoir for some romantic photos by the water. The lighting was amazing and a perfect match to Sara’s beautiful dress.
Our reception dinner was about being with the people we love and sharing these special moments. Our families had never officially met so that was probably one of the most important parts for us.
Our cake was a left-hand milk stout cake (stacked) with mountains and trees. We picked the pine cones/greenery to top the cake.
Memorable Moment: A little fox wandered onto the deck to join us about 11pm. I will never forget that. We named him Reginald and declared him the featured guest.
From the bride, Kate: Joel and I always thought we’d tie the knot in the mountains because we love the outdoors so much but we had a lot of friends and family traveling from out of town. With the train to plane running, it gave us an opportunity to keep our guests’ travel costs minimal if we were married downtown. Out of towners could fly into Denver, take the train into the city ($9) and use the free 16th Street Mall Ride to reach the hotels where we’d had rooms blocked.
The flowers were white orchids, parrot tulips, some ranunculus, with a large focus on greenery – fern varietals and magnolia leaves, which incorporated brown into our palette.
My favorite ceremony highlight was my dad walking me down the aisle. It was so exciting to see my almost husband surrounded by all our loved ones, I couldn’t stop smiling!
My favorite details were all the ferns and the massive chandelier we hung from the rafters of the loft.
I fell in love with the idea of putting our seating chart on a large mirror (something I saw on Pinterest). I was lucky to have a bridesmaid who is a gifted calligraphist so I decided to gold-leaf a $40 Walmart mirror and using a bit of Pinspiration we created a Pin-worthy seating chart together. Learning how to gold leaf was a much bigger undertaking than I’d anticipated it would be. I’d never done it before and I’d always wanted to learn but it took me a lot longer than expected to complete. I was truly blessed to have my bridesmaid Amanda write out the seating chart, she did an incredible job! It also took her longer than she’d anticipated, about 90 minutes per column (four columns total) and that time didn’t include the additional header and footer.
One of the most memorable moments was our first dance together as husband and wife. We practiced nearly every day for two months leading up to it but nothing could prepare us for dancing in our wedding day shoes and attire. Lots of laughter between us as we tripped over each other.
Instead of having a traditional cake, we included three desserts in our buffet that reflected our favorite sweets along with a super delicious cheese spread and hot chocolate bar.
ADVICE: Do your research, take your time with everything, and lower your expectations when perusing Pinterest. Decide what is most important to you and have a good budgeting strategy (Google Spreadsheet!). We decided that food, flowers, and photography were most important to us so we kept costs down elsewhere.
With a stunning mountain backdrop, Matt and Isa were married at the Ten Peaks event site on the top of Crested Butte Mountain.

From the bride, Holly: I wanted our wedding to really be personal. It needed to be a description of who we are as a couple and individually. We chose a color palette with shades of beige/brown with pops of turquoise.
My corgi was our ring bearer, he greeted almost every guest during our ceremony.
Our ceremony was on top of a hill with beautiful meadows below. In the center of our arch was Pikes Peak. Some highlights; our officiant (he was hilarious! & kept me from sobbing the whole time). My favorite memory from the ceremony is when my husband read his vows. We wrote our own vows, per his request, and I’ve been told there wasn’t a dry eye at the ceremony after hearing our vows. They were extremely personal and spoke true to our past, present and future relationship.
In place of the unity candle, we branded a hide, which really made the ceremony and the sealing of our marriage personal.
The ceremony was a whirlwind of tears for me. Fastest 30 minutes ever!
The décor of our reception was rustic with a vintage touch.
We had a S’mores Bar out by a fire pit. It was a huge hit!
Looking back, If I were to plan my wedding again, I would have followed through on more details that fell off the list the closer our wedding date got. I had so many good ideas that I wasn’t able to complete because time really does fly!
ADVICE: Enjoy it! Take the time to make your wedding as personal as possible.
The most memorable moment of our reception would be when Carson and I snuck off to take some pictures under the hay barn and in the rain. These are some of our FAVORITE pictures and we got a moment to ourselves amongst those we love having fun. I can vividly remember dancing under the hay barn with the music and laughter in the background.

Jim and Sharilyn met on ChristianMingle.com. They both knew pretty early on that each other was “the One.” Jim proposed in the very spot where they would eventually be married, in the Oval at the beautiful Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins. They had both attended school there together at the same time, even working a couple of doors down from each other – but they never actually met until they had met online. Funny how life works that way. The reception that followed at the Lory Student Center Ballroom was decorated with fun handmade details highlighting Jim + Sharilyn’s love for hunting and CSU.
From the bride, Elizabeth: Our destination wedding was centered on the idea of bringing family and friends from Texas and Arizona together to celebrate our love for Colorado and for each other. Our love story began five years prior in Silverton, Colorado so, we invited our loved ones to join us in the place we first fell in love, for a small intimate wedding in the mountains.
The most unforgettable memory was being surrounded by our friends and family sharing tears of joy as we pledged our love to each other with a breathtaking 360-degree mountain view with Mt. Wilson as the backdrop.
Our wedding design comprised a vintage theme with classic elements characterizing Colorado. We incorporated lace, mercury glass, and candle light with subtle shades of blush, ivory, and beige.
Each table illumined with mercury glass candle holders, softly lighting the room and providing a graceful romantic feel. The tall floral centerpieces with hints of pine cones and spruce branches gave the rustic room a very stylish, refined wedding atmosphere.
Our wedding favors included sweet caramel apples from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and S’mores for our Roast and Toast.
ADVICE: Always remind out of town vendors and guests to follow the main highways in Colorado; otherwise, Google Maps may send them for a wild ride across rugged 4-wheel drive mountain passes.
