Love at 10,022 Feet in Telluride

From the bride, Elizabeth: Our destination wedding was centered on the idea of bringing family and friends from Texas and Arizona together to celebrate our love for Colorado and for each other. Our love story began five years prior in Silverton, Colorado so, we invited our loved ones to join us in the place we first fell in love, for a small intimate wedding in the mountains. The most unforgettable memory was being surrounded by our friends and family sharing tears of joy as we pledged our love to each other with a breathtaking 360-degree mountain view with Mt. Wilson as the backdrop.

Our wedding design comprised a vintage theme with classic elements characterizing Colorado. We incorporated lace, mercury glass, and candle light with subtle shades of blush, ivory, and beige. Destination Wedding at 10,022 Feet in Telluride, Colorado

Each table illumined with mercury glass candle holders, softly lighting the room and providing a graceful romantic feel. The tall floral centerpieces with hints of pine cones and spruce branches gave the rustic room a very stylish, refined wedding atmosphere.

Our wedding favors included sweet caramel apples from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and S’mores for our Roast and Toast.

ADVICE: Always remind out of town vendors and guests to follow the main highways in Colorado; otherwise, Google Maps may send them for a wild ride across rugged 4-wheel drive mountain passes.

A Destination Wedding at Silverpick Lodge

Katie & Mike  |  September 26th  |  Durango, Colorado

WHY DURANGO
We chose Durango because we wanted a beautiful Rocky Mountain wedding specifically to capture the golden aspens of September, we also wanted our guests to get to experience some of the best of Colorado!  The Durango area also provided both us and our guests the activities that we love to do.  Mike was able to mountain bike with the guys at DMR the morning of the wedding, and the day after we got to hike and do some rock climbing. Another big reason was our venue, Silverpick Lodge, which was the perfect place for us, we researched and visited a lot of other venues in the surrounding areas and this one gave us the best feeling that fit who we are as a couple. We really valued the freedom of doing what we wanted for our wedding on our own timeline and having a laid-back atmosphere and Silverpick Lodge delivered just this. Not to mention the space for lodging is awesome, we did a three-day wedding weekend, and almost all our guests were able to stay in the main lodge or the condos on site, it was the best being able to walk down a flight of stairs from the reception to our rooms or to the after party at the outdoor fire pit. Could not be happier with our choice!

Our colors centered around antique blues for glassware and pinks/peaches/creams for the dresses and flowers.

Our ceremony was in a open field along the aspen tree line. My dad walked me down the aisle to a live version of “Wildflowers” by Tom Petty. I was awe of the mountain backdrop with the aspen colors. We wrote our own vows. The ceremony only lasted about five minutes, but it fit us perfectly.

My favorite memory was walking/dancing back down the aisle with Mike after the ceremony to a bluegrass version of Led Zeppelins “Whole Lotta’ Love”.

Mike spent 9 months restoring the 1973 International Scout because I had this vision to have it in the wedding, he even let me pick the color to match the wedding.  Pulling up with my dad and then leaving with the wedding party in the Scout was a memorable way to enter and exit.

Doing all the decor ourselves also really made the wedding more personal for us, after months of working long hours after work every night making all the details for the decor, it was great to see it all come together that day and in all the pictures (not that I would ever want to do it again!) DIY is time consuming but worth it!

Mike and I attempted to choreograph our dance into the reception, we were half successful, ‘A’ for effort right? But the crowd was so into it! And he didn’t drop me!

Mr Soul Entertainment started the dance party right after the Grand March. All our guests joined right in and we started dancing before dinner for about 3 songs (still daylight out). He played Sweet Caroline, which is a famous song they play at Wisconsin Badger football games and we all formed a circle sang the song and everyone joined in, this was all before dinner even started! The highlight of the night was the karaok.  Mr Soul Entertainment  passed around a half a dozen microphones while we were dancing and we did at least an hour of singing.  The best part is the video that was taken and how terrible we were, but it was so fun and different to have at a wedding.

My advice: Do what you want, it’s your wedding!

Katie’s RECOMMENDED VENDORS

Ceremony Site & Lodging: Silverpick Lodge  {more info} . Chris was great to work with!  There are multiple places on the property for a ceremony. We picked the meadow with the amazing mountain backdrop. The rooms at Silverpick Lodge are great, plus there are hot tubs, a fire pit, multiple kitchens, large living space.

Reception Site: Sow’s Ear Restaurant {more info}. The chef and restaurant owner George is amazing, besides creating the most amazing food, he really works with you so you get what you want, food was really important and George did not disappoint. I had so many people tell us that it was the best food that they ever had at a wedding. It was seriously so good, we can’t wait to go back and ask if they can make the same thing again for us.

Photographer: Dylan Burr. We were so happy we found him. I never worried once that he would not capture the moments that were important to us. Dylan and his assistant were great and even hung with us afterwards (at the reception) which meant a lot! He went above and beyond and I knew that he really wanted to give us the best photos he could. Dylan has an amazing eye and I would recommend him to anyone!

DJ: Mr Soul Entertainment book if you like someone who knows how to have a good time.

Flowers: 3 Leaf Floral. Kelly was great, she met with me multiple times and was great with any last minute changes I wanted to make. I really just told her the concept I wanted and she ran with it and everything look so beautiful. The flowers were one of my favorite parts of the wedding, worth every penny!

A Simple & Relaxed Wedding in Cuchara

Michelle & Brad  |   August 22nd  |  Cuchara, Colorado

From the photographer, John Bosley: How’s a weekend in the beautiful mountains of southern Colorado sound? Hop on your Harley for a summer ride across the state, meet up with a bunch of your closest friends, have a keg of your favorite beer and while you’re at it, get married to your best friend. That’s exactly what Michelle and Brad did. Their wedding at Yellow Pine Ranch in Cuchara was pretty much perfect. They had an entire mountain ranch to themselves, complete with beautiful weather, family and friends. Their wedding felt more like a big party than a fancy, formal affair, which is exactly what Michelle and Brad wanted. Timelines were more like guidelines and things happened at their own pace, which led to a wonderfully stress-free day for everyone. By the end of the day, tears were shed, memories were created and Michelle and Brad had started their journey through life together.

Hillary &  Tyler |  July 18th  |  Gunnison, Colorado

Hillary and Tyler met while they were both going to school in Gunnison, Colorado. They moved to Utah to live, but traveled back to Gunnison for their wedding because it was such a special place to them. Their wedding day was an intimate celebration filled with handcrafted country decor.

A Snowy Spring Mountain Wedding

Audrey & Bryce  |  May 23rd  |  Ouray, Colorado

From the bride: We wanted to have a big party with good food and good music that happened to have a wedding ceremony beforehand. We strived to create an experience that was casual, fun, and memorable for both us and the guests.

The ceremony took place at a friends cabin on Hayden Mountain, just outside of Ouray. It was about a 15 minute drive up a Forest Service road so we had a Jeep shuttle available for friends that didn’t have four-wheel drive vehicles.

We chose to not have chairs at the ceremony location to create a more intimate setting with everyone standing beside us. We didn’t have a backup rain location, but instead told guests to bring blankets and umbrellas.

About halfway through the ceremony, big gentle snowflakes began to fall. Looking back, bad weather had been our primary concern about having an outdoor wedding on the top of a mountain in May. However, the snow became our favorite part of the day!

The reception took place at my in-law’s house, down the mountain from the ceremony location. Because of the bad weather, all of the tables and chairs were moved inside at the last minute, resulting in a 100-person dinner party in their living room with the band set up in the kitchen. I wanted to keep the décor as simple as possible. We used white linens and white china and the centerpieces were glass vases filled with peonies, sunflowers, snapdragons, and columbines.

Following the reception, we braved the cold for a bonfire on the lawn under the twinkling lights. We sang songs around the fire until the stars came out.

An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding

Bonnie & Brad  |  February 14th  |  Durango, Colorado

From the bride: My wedding at Durango Mountain Resort was an absolute dream, truly.  We chose Valentine’s Day for several reasons: it’s my husband’s birthday, it’s the day we got engaged, and it’s been my favorite day of the year since I was two. We met at Durango Mountain Resort and fell in love at first sight. When we decided to get married, we knew we wanted to get married at the exact spot where we met. I was finishing nursing school, so we decided to have a very tiny and special ceremony. An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado An Intimate Valentine's Day Wedding - Durango Colorado
