Winter Wedding in Southwest Colorado

Photography by  Carol Cardwell Photography

From the bride, Kristi:
We had a small, intimate ceremony with close friends and family.  We opted for an abbreviated reception with appetizers and wine over the traditional reception dinner.  Just enough time to thank everyone for coming, give and get hugs, and get warm wishes. Honestly this was WONDERFUL – we didn’t have the stress of hundreds of people and we got to spend time with the important people from each others lives.

FAVORITE DETAIL
I loved the winter setting. So many brides get married in the summer and have gorgeous lush green settings for the photos, but we had a winter wonderland to play with, and as a dedicated snow bunny, having that as part of our memories is pretty neat.

Golden Leaves & A Gorgeous Backdrop

Photography by Carol Cardwell Photography

From the bride, Tara:
Our inspiration was all about fall, the mountains, friends, family and having one heck of a party!  We both love the mountains, so we chose Boyce Meadow at Durango Mountain Resort.  The location was gorgeous. The sun was shining on the golden  leaves and right before the ceremony started, a breeze blew through the clearing and cascading aspen leaves fell down on everyone – it was like rice being thrown for us by angels -pure magic!

My bouquet contained a gold chain and pearl that my grandfather had given my grandmother on their 30th anniversary. We had so much fun taking pictures.  We had to pick cockle burs out of my dress when we were done, but it was so worth it because the pictures are amazing.

Redstone Romance

Photography by Art & Soul Photography

From the bride, Crispin:
Our wedding was intimate, warm and simple. We really wanted the focus to be on the importance of our vows, and having our family and dear friends with us for a festive and laid-back weekend. We chose Colorado so our grandparents wouldn’t have to travel to California.  Redstone, Colorado, is a beautiful history-rich small community, which helped us create an insulated, private destination gathering.  The Redstone Inn was large enough to accommodate all our guests and the rooms, venue, food and beverage costs were very reasonable.

Forty of our closest family and friends witnessed our vows on the lawn of the Redstone Inn.  Wayne’s best friend was our officiant.  We took a horse drawn carriage ride after the ceremony and enjoyed a moment together before returning to the Inn.

PERSONAL TOUCHES
-We made a retrospective slide show with photos of us growing up, and also photos of us with our guests. Everyone got a little reminiscent seeing themselves on the screen. It led to great stories around the room.

-We also had a Polaroid guestbook instead of a traditional one. Everyone took a picture during the evening and wrote a message on their page.

-Wayne’s grandparents hosted a breakfast the following morning, which was a lovely way to thank everyone for coming.

WEDDING WISDOM
Keep it simple, write great vows, surround yourselves with loved ones, and leave more of the budget for the honeymoon!
