A Rustic Wedding at Chatfield Botanic Gardens

From the bride, Bonnie: Our wedding was simple, rustic and classic. Since we had a lot of family coming in from out-of-town we wanted to show them the rustic charm of Colorado. The beautiful barn and the surrounding botanic gardens at Chatfield Botanic Gardens was our inspiration.

THE COLOR PALETTE
Yellow (I love sunflowers!), navy, and grey.

THE CEREMONY
We held our ceremony at the open air chapel (a cute gazebo). The ceremony was really simple and quick, we had a family friend as our officiant. Ben and I aren’t particularly religious, but we love Harry Potter so we had our officiant hold a Harry Potter book!

THE DÉCOR
Simple and rustic. We put together sunflowers and small daisies in mason jars for the centerpieces, and our moms made wine bottles with fairy lights. That was about it!

ADVICE
This is really hard to take and everyone says it but just step back every so often and remember that it’s a party you are throwing to celebrate your new life together. It should be fun! It shouldn’t be stressful.  Also, spend money on a great photographer. That is what you will look back on for the rest of your lives, no one will remember the food but you will always look at the pictures!

A Perfect Colorado Wedding Day

Brean & Andrew  |  June 21, 2015

From the bride: Andrew and I met at a real estate investing seminar. I stared at the back of his head for an hour trying to decide if he had a ring on his finger. When our eyes finally met, the rest was history.

Love Blooms in Estes by Devon K Photography

Roya & Clayton | July 21st | Estes Park, Colorado

From the bride: We chose Estes Park as we love the outdoors and ideally wanted our wedding outdoors.  An olive green and charcoal grey color palette incorporated the natural environment.

We had subtle hints of peach and pale pink in the flowers, but overall tried to have green be the focus of our flowers. Place cards were hung from a large white garden gate that has a heart in the center. This gate came from Clayton’s mother’s garden and we felt it not only brought her love into our wedding but it was a unique way for us to incorporate our love for the outdoors.

Instead of a guest book that would be tucked away, we had guests sign a wooden wine box. After the wedding, we stained it to seal in the signatures. It is now a decoration for our home as opposed to being tucked away in a drawer.

Our rings were carried in a small treasure chest as a nod to our love for adventure. Inside the chest, there was a poem about the significance of wedding rings. Della Terra wedding by Devo Photography, Estes Park Colorado

Our ceremony was on the longer side but this is because we added lots of personal touches- we wrote a piece for our parents (in which afterwards we both went down and hugged our parents), recited our own vows, and acknowledged our loved ones that were not present on that day. There was a special piece about Clayton’s deceased father, Ted, who was with us in spirit that day.

We both absolutely loved our cake. The cake was a simple, yet elegant round three-tiered cake. It featured a beautiful, edible olive green bow with a brooch in the center. There was beautiful sugar peony atop and then pieces of edible lace inspired by my dress.  I surprised Clayton with a grooms cake that incorporated things personal to Clayton: our dogs, rock climbing shoes and magazine, a Bronco’s jersey, and a Firefighter’s helmet.

My advice: Several people gave us this advice, and its often easy to lose sight of- but remember why there is a wedding in the first place- its about the love between you and your partner. Too often, we become engrossed in details that only you will notice if they aren’t perfect. Enjoy each other’s love and the commitment you are about to make and don’t stress over “stuff.”

Woodsy Chic in Beaver Creek

Valerie & Sergio |  June 22nd  | Beaver Creek, Colorado

From the bride: We were fortunate to have a beautiful Colorado bluebird day as all of our festivities were outdoors. The day was a roller coaster of emotions, anxiety and excitement.

Our ceremony was comical, right from the beginning there were laughs. My veil got stuck on the stone steps of the wedding deck as I was walking down the aisle.  I couldn’t get Sergios’ ring on his finger and just before our “I do’s” my veil took flight and my MoH had to jump up in the air to catch it.

Rocky Mountain destination wedding in Beaver Creek, ColoradoMy favorite moment was our “I Do’s” and kissing my husband for the first time. We had been together for 9 years through lots of ups and downs and it just felt so good to become husband and wife. I know it sounds corny, but I felt an instantaneous gravity shift. He’s my partner for life and it’s us vs anything that comes our way.
Rocky Mountain destination wedding in Beaver Creek, Colorado Rocky Mountain destination wedding in Beaver Creek, Colorado Rocky Mountain destination wedding in Beaver Creek, ColoradoApart from the ceremony, my favorite moment was walking into our cocktail hour. The day was so sunny, the sky was that deep, deep blue you only get in the mountains of Colorado, our jazz band was playing beautiful swing music and to see all our guests playing lawn games and socializing was just breathtaking.

Since we live in NJ, our animals were not able to be with us so we created a photo of our 2 cats and our 9 month old puppy to accompany the guest book. The animals were not pleased about being forced to pose for the picture so it came out with very stern expressions on them all. It was cracking me up every time I looked at it during the reception.

We had beautiful, long log centerpieces with moss, succulents and mixed white flowers in mercury glass atop chevron table runners in grey and white. Our travels and ethnic backgrounds influenced our menu. We wanted to share foods we loved and snippets from our travels with our guests.

Our pets were featured on our “dia de los muertos” wedding cake topper. The wedding topper inspiration came from our trip to Mexico, where we got engaged on top of the Sun pyramid at Teotiuhuacan (which my husband likes to joke, where people were once decapitated) and was a nod to my heritage on my mother’s side.

I loved our first dance. Sergio had an amazing smile on his face and twirling around alternating views of the mountains and the beautiful facade of the Ritz was surreal.

Looking back, the reception was over so quickly. The whole day passed in the blink of the eye.

Rocky Mountain destination wedding in Beaver Creek, Colorado

My advice: Enjoy the engagement and keep focused on the end game, i.e. being a family with your husband. Certainly pay attention to the details and make the day your own. Recognize that things will go wrong, but in hindsight they’ll be minor. Don’t ruin your mood or your fiancé’s in the months leading up to the wedding or the day of by stressing over little things. Talk to someone who got married recently for guidance. If you don’t know someone in your immediate circle, crowd source it. People love talking about their weddings and I’d be happy to talk for an hour if I could save anyone some stress in their wedding planning process.

Simple & Relaxed in Grand Junction

Courtney & Chris | May 25th | Grand Junction, Colorado

From the bride:
My goal for our wedding day was to create a simple and relaxed day, overflowing with love.  I love nature and antiques so I really wanted to incorporate both by means of tree trunks, lace, and lots of flowers. I chose a color palette of blush pink, peach and gray, with hints of mint green.

A Simple, Casual & Relaxed Wedding in Grand Junction

We did almost all of the wedding planning and decorating ourselves, so I feel like the whole day was the result of many personal touches. Really though, it was such a great feeling to see everything that I’d envisioned come together so beautifully as a result of many helping hands. My parents brought out several antiques from their home to be used as decorations, some dear family friends played music for the ceremony, and still more friends helped with assembling the bridesmaid’s bouquets and table centerpieces. The whole day wouldn’t have been nearly as beautiful without the help that so many friends provided.

Our ceremony took place in the gazebo on the lawn.  It really was beautiful.   My favorite memory was when the best man fainted! When it happened it was startling, but now we all laugh when we remember it.

We had some great BBQ, played corn hole, and attempted to talk to everyone who came out to celebrate with us.

A Simple, Casual & Relaxed Wedding in Grand Junction A Simple, Casual & Relaxed Wedding in Grand JunctionLooking back, I would try to ensure that I had more time to spend just hanging out and enjoying the evening. I feel like I was trying too hard to talk to everyone, and I didn’t really TALK with anyone.

A Simple, Casual & Relaxed Wedding in Grand JunctionMy advice: Don’t rush or stress about planning! Things will fall into place. Don’t be afraid to toss some of the lesser details out; remember to focus on the core reason for the day: celebrating your union to your best friend with your family and friends. Everything else is really just extra. Don’t stress over creating a “picture perfect” day.
